The Fauna
 In
the Protected Area, there is a fish fauna typical of Sardinian
sea, and living on rocky and sandy seabed: octopus, crayfish,
white breams, mullets, dentex, capons, morays, lobsters,
greymullets, giltheads.
There also are curious exceptions:
since the general temperature increasing some tropical
species have moved to shoals before Simius beach. These
new varieties are welcomed and fondled by P. M. A. staff
and tourists.
Here lives Pinna Nobilis, the biggest
clam in the Mediterranean. It’s quite frequent to see dauphins and several years
ago also a monk seal has been sighted. The presence of
those mammalia is a further confirmation of unpolluted
waters: an ideal habitat in which many species find nourishment,
growth and breed.
As regards to the terrestrial fauna,
many birds inhabit this territory, especially on Isola
dei Cavoli and Stagno
dei Notteri: Peregrine falcons, green cormorants, warblers,
tawny pipits, little shrikes and shearwaters, flamingos.
